A Teaching for Conscious Life
Agni Yoga, the yoga of Living Ethics, is a spiritual Teaching given through Helena Roerich beginning in 1924. Its practice is not separate from ordinary life. It asks the student to transform thought, motive, action, relationship, work, and service into a field of conscious growth.
The word Agni points to fire: the fire of consciousness, the energy of the heart, and the inner striving that carries a person toward higher understanding. In this sense, Agni Yoga is not a retreat from the world but a discipline of living more consciously within it.
The Teaching is also called Living Ethics because it places spiritual development in daily conduct. Ethics are not treated as abstract rules, but as living choices made through thought, speech, labor, beauty, courage, and service to the common good.
How Agni Yoga Differs From Physical Yoga
Not a posture system
Agni Yoga is not centered on physical postures, breath exercises, or bodily discipline. Its primary work is the conscious refinement of thought, feeling, motive, and action.
Not withdrawal from life
The Teaching directs attention toward daily responsibilities. Family, work, community, beauty, and service all become places where consciousness can be tested and strengthened.
A yoga of fire
Agni Yoga speaks of fiery energy as the living power of consciousness. This fire is cultivated through vigilance, discipline, love, courage, and striving toward higher ideals.
The Main Themes
Helena Roerich and the Agni Yoga Books
Helena Roerich recorded the Agni Yoga series in cooperation with the Masters of Wisdom. The books were composed between 1924 and 1938 and are studied by readers around the world as a body of spiritual instruction for the new era.
Nicholas Roerich's paintings, cultural work, and peace efforts stand beside the Teaching as expressions of the same striving toward beauty, culture, and the protection of the highest values.
The Agni Yoga World Community exists to help students find the books, study resources, groups, organizations, and community connections that support this path.
